Thao Nguyen is acclaimed for his versatility, ease and beauty of voice in a wide variety of musical genres. "Nguyen commands the stage with his velvety baritone and graceful, yet intense, presence. He is convincing and completely present in every moment."Based mostly on the east coast, Mr. Nguyen has performed with many noted companies such as Connecticut Opera, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Piedmont Opera, Lees McRae, Mountainside Theatre, Temple Theatre and Playhouse on Park. He has performed under the baton of many acclaimed conductors like Maestro Willie Anthony Waters(CT Opera), Maestro Robert Ashen(Eugene Opera) and Maestro James Albritten.
Noted performances include Samuel in Pirates of Penzance, Thuy in Miss Saigon, Mary Sunshine in Chicago! Bobby in Sondheim's Company and a Greta in BENT.
His 2019 engagements include performances with Piedmont Opera's Elixir of Love, Ernst Wolf's Easter Cantata and Faure's Requiem with the Moramus Moravian Choir and a new operatic work, Abie's Chinese Rose, for Harbin Opera, which will have workshops and premier in Washington D.C. He will also join the Carolina Music Festival and BRAHM Summer Festival with soprano Jodi Burns and pianist David Lane for "A Summer Affair" concert. To round out his season he will join the Cape Fear Regional Theatre in their production of Mamma Mia.
Along with his performing schedule Mr. Nguyen is a passionate teacher who's Masterclass Schedule will include working with students from Catawba College and his alma mater UNCSA this season, along with his private studio.
Mr. Nguyen received his vocal training at the University of
North Carolina School of the Arts studying with mezzo-soprano Marion Pratnicki.
